SYSTEM FOR ALCOHOL SENSING AND ALERT WITH ENGINE LOCKING FOR PASANGERS’ CAR.

Safety on the road is a very big topic to discuss each passing day in our country. That safety is for everyone who uses the road and the road itself. Safety on the road protocol to go with the changing environment- hence, saving lives of different road users.
The main reason for road safety adherence is to prevent accidents in order not to lose man-power and property damages. Due to such facts, there is a need to design a circuit with a sensor that detects presence of alcohol on driver’s breath.


PROBLEM STATEMENT

Many death of people in our society is accidents because some drivers drives while taking alcohol. This project intend to reduce the number accidents caused by drunk drivers by proposing a system which would be constantly monitoring the driver’s breath by placing on the driver steering wheel or somewhere the driver’s breath can be constantly detected. So if driver drunk and tries to drive the, system detected the presence of alcohol in his/her breathe and lock the engine automatically so that the vehicle fail to start.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The main objective of this project is to reduce accidents caused by drunk drivers , by proposing the automatic system for alcohol sensing and alert with engine locking.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

Reducing number of disabled people in the society
Minimize accidents caused by drunk drivers.
To reduce number of death caused by accidents.
Reduces number of orphans in the society due to loss of their parents caused by accident.
To reduce the damage of properties such as cars and roads.

This section involves passing through different works done by different people which relates to my project. Also it involves reading different sources of information such as internets, books and articles, which contributes positively to my project.

DISADVANTAGES OF THE EXISTING SYSTEM

The needs police officers to be along the roads every time to detect drunk driver.
The driver refuse he is not drunkard after he arrive to the police station.
The driver might refuse to sign when he is a drunkard.
It causes accidents when driver drives while taking alcohol.

DATA COLLECTION

Data collection is a part that describes the evaluation of the project before carrying out designing. It describes some situation from which decision to conclude . The following are relevant information obtained from the site.

DATA ANALYSIS

OPERATING PRINCIPLE OF THE CIRCUIT

When you push the button(which represent key of the car), the MCU start to read and compute the amount of alcohol sensed by the gas sensor and gives the command to the DISPLAY to display the amount of alcohol measured. If it exceed 0.80 mg/L, The MCU will send command to turn on a buzzer which will give out sound and transistor Q2 which acts as a switch to energize the relay, to close a Normally open(NO) contact to lock the engine, which demonstrated by a Dc motor. Relay is also connects with freewheel diode to prevent back EMF from relay to transistors and other electronic components from damage. Also pull down resistors connected to the circuit to suppress electric noise from the circuit.

CONCLUSION

 After designing and testing the model of this Automatic System for Alcohol sensing alert with engine locking, the system provide better result output as a reliable modern and reduce the number of accidents. Therefore upon employing and implementing this automatic system in various areas within our country, it will play a major role as way to reduce the number of accidents.

RECOMMENDATION

Since this project is the improvement from the existing system, the proposed system is improved so as to obtain a more accurate and modern alcoholmeter for monitoring drunkard drivers

I recommend this project to be installed in cars so as to reduce the number of accidents. This Automatic System for Alcohol sensing alert with engine locking works only on the supply of power from the car battery.
